If you have some free time during the holiday season it’s a really good opportunity to sit down and review the past 12 months and think about the year ahead.

Obviously, had we done this exercise at the end of 2019, we would NEVER have factored in a worldwide pandemic but you live and learn and it’s definitely given us something to reflect on now.

For instance, you can consider:

  • How well did I adapt?
  • Did I have procedures in place to deal with lack of work or more work?
  • Do I need to review my procedures? Are they written down?
  • Am I using useful apps to help me organise my workload, such as Asana or Trello?
  • Was I overwhelmed and could I have outsourced some work?
  • Did I outsource, how did that go?⠀

The main thing is that you got to the end of the year and 2020 is drawing to a close (cue huge sigh of relief).

Now to look forward to 2021.

Consider where you want to be at the end of 2021. If this seems like a long way off then  break the year down into quarters

Decide on your goal for each quarter – choose 2 or 3 things that you would like to achieve.

Figure out your steps to achieve them. What action will you need to take for each? ⠀⠀

Write this down. Use a diary, create a spreadsheet, set up a Word document. Whichever works best for you.⠀⠀

As you go through the year refer to this record and measure how well you are reaching your targets.

Think about what could be improved and what your next step should be.

You may even consider outsourcing some business support or hiring a VA.
